Written:

Let’s go over some things you already probably know. A yacht is essentially the playground you buy when you’re fabulously wealthy, and the yacht needs crew to run. The crew fall into several baskets.

The Deck runs the navigation of the yacht, and they look after cleaning the exterior of the yacht too.

The Engineers look after all the mechanical systems on the boat, from the engines to the freshwater makers to the cont…

And finally we have the Galley department, which on a small yacht folds into the Interior department, whilst on a larger yacht would be considered it’s own department.

The Chef is obviously expected to output high quality guest food, to the guests preference. This may involve creating food fit for royalty, or making a humble bolognaise, and everything in between.

As well as this a Chef would be expected to have certain safety roles, and these often fall into the medical category. This means that in the rare event of a medical emergency a yacht chef would have a safety critical role.

A great Yacht Chef, is organised, tidy, well presented, and can interact with the high calibre guests on board. If you’ve got a few of these qualities you can focus on getting the rest of them up as you go, it’s not a deal breaker to be a little messy if you’re willing to work on it.
