2. Understanding what makes a great yachtie CV
Meet Jane. She’s going to be our imaginary Yachtie who were going to build a beautiful CV for.
Jane is a Deck/Stew with a couple seasons experience and she’s looking to move further towards the deck side.
Here is her CV, and it’s great.
Why is this a great CV?
First of all it’s pleasing to the eye.
The margins are filled, it’s proportional, the picture is well lit, her name is instantly visible, and we know what she’s looking for.
We know where she is in the world.
We can easily see very quickly what qualifications and certifications she has.
It’s obvious what her interests are, and how she would fit in with the rest of the crew.
Something that many people aren’t aware of when they’re making their CV is that when someone is looking at a whole bunch, they sort them into a maybe pile, and a no pile, and you have about 15 seconds to make it into the maybe pile.
So it doesn’t even matter what you write, you could have all the experience in the world, but if you’re CV doesn’t look good enough, you won’t be making it into the maybe pile.
You need to get into the maybe pile!
